Make new connections and learn about other cultures by visiting someone from a refugee background to provide friendship, guidance and practical assistance with their settlement.
The Social Support Program links a family or individual of refugee background with a volunteer who visits them at home on a regular basis -days and times flexible. Volunteers may provide a variety of support, such as:
- Go on outings or participate in activities together
- Practice conversational English
- Assist with orientation and connection to the wider Australian community
- Explaining Australian social/cultural norms
- Familiarisation of systems (e.g. public transport, shopping)
Mainly female volunteers needed in Adelaide northern suburbs, eg. Salisbury, Elizabeth, Pennington
