We are a registered charity, set up to re-purpose discarded bicycles (we use the frames), marine plywood, new BMX wheels and a lot of love to make a low-cost wheelchair suitable for unpaved areas.
Your work may involve the dismantling of old bikes, cutting plywood, using up-to-scratch power tools and machinery. Or simple work such as painting the wood, sandblasting bike frames or packaging the finished product. No specific trade skills are required, but the willingness to put on gloves and protective gear. Have you worked with power tools? Are you handy in bicycle repairs? Sometimes we get a bike too good to be wrecked, so we refurbish it to be donated to a needy local child.
We work every Wednesday and/or Saturday morning, 07:30 to about midday. Either or both days.

The Surfers Sunrise Wheelchair Trust project has three major aims: (1) Provide mobility for disabled people in developing countries who otherwise could not obtain a wheelchair, (2) Provide a safe working environment to volunteers and allow them to do good community work whilst enjoying a great social experience, and (3) Reduce waste by re-purposing old bicycles instead of them going to landfill.
