Many residents come from diverse cultural backgrounds and speak languages other than English. Would you like to make meaningful changes to the lives of our residents through power of language?
Bilingualism in the context of dementia can affect first generation migrants who may find themselves unable to communicate with their loved ones as they revert to the language they learnt in their youth. Duties would be focussed on verbal communication with residents through the power of a common language. Volunteers will be matched to residents who identify as sharing language and cultural backgrounds in Greek, German, French, Hungarian, Polish, Spanish, Dutch, Croatian and Arabic etc.
Centrelink approved and open to over 16 years old.
